Keyboard Concert Series Features Pianist Beatrice Rana
Beatrice Rana, silver medalist at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Music Building Concert Hall as part of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert Series.
The 21-year-old Italian pianist, who has appeared in major halls in Europe, Asia and the United States, will perform works by J.S. Bach, Chopin and Ravel.

Run for the Dream Indoor Track and Field Invitational
This year’s Run for the Dream Indoor Track and Field Invitational at the Save Mart Center will be held Feb. 15-16, 2015.
Tickets are on sale now ranging from $4-12.
The registration deadline for youth meets is Feb. 4. The event will also feature high school, collegiate and open competitions.

International Center for Water Technology receives up to $1.12M grant
Fresno State’s International Center for Water Technology received a grant of up to $1.12 million from the Fresno Regional Workforce Investment Board to continue its nationally-recognized research and partnerships with industry and government agencies.
“The Fresno Regional Workforce Investment Board recognizes that water is the lifeblood for much of our Valley’s economy, and a primary source for jobs,” said Blake Konczal, director of the board. “We are pleased to support the work of Fresno State’s International Center for Water Technology in its role with the area water cluster and development of new water technologies.”

18th Annual Double Reed Day
Oboe and bassoon players of all ages and experiences are invited to the 18th annual Double Reed Day hosted by the Fresno State Department of Music beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 in the Music building.
The pre-registration deadline is Jan. 26.
Participants in the workshops will receive individual music sessions, view open exhibits, hear guest lectures and perform in a public gala recital at 5:30 p.m.. Guest artists are Colin Maier, internationally renowned oboist from the ensemble “Quartetto Gelato,” and Robert Williams, principal bassoonist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

$50K Augmentation to Help Transform Next College Generation
Fresno State was recently awarded a $50,000 contract from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities as a technical assistance support for the Transformation Planning Grant designed to increase access, improve success rates and find greater cost efficiencies. In an effort to make the next generation a “college-going culture” within the local region, the project will create a technology-rich kindergarten and develop it into a streamlined college graduation pipeline working with 10 Hispanic-serving institutions.

Artist Invitational Exhibit
The 2015 Artist Invitational Exhibition Thursday, Jan. 29 through Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the Conley Art building at Fresno State. The exhibit features an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Phebe Conley Art Gallery and includes lectures Wednesday and Thursday in Conley Art, Room 101. This year’s theme, “Water in Crisis,” features artists who offer unique visual strategies for engagement with water issues. The artists’ works approach water from a wide range of perspectives, including aesthetic, cultural, economic and environmental.

Free Public Hearing Evaluations Begin Jan. 30
Fresno State’s Speech and Hearing Clinic will offer free hearing evaluations Jan. 30-April 20. They will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the on-campus clinic. The thorough evaluations are completed by graduate students in the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies who are supervised by licensed and nationally certified audiologists. Clients must be at least 3 years old. Appointments must be made in advance by completing a case history form that is available online at http://www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/cdds/policies-forms/speech-hearing.html. Upon approval, an appointment will be scheduled and exact location provided. Parking permits are available for confirmed appointments.
